The Amarant Academy Story

Amarant Academy is part of Royal Amarant Bakers, a family business with over 100 years of experience. We’re ready to keep baking delicious, affordable and healthy bread in a sustainable way for another 100 years. And we’d like to take you along for the ride with this unique program!

Developments in the baking profession are so rapid that training programs struggle to keep up. By drawing on our practical expertise and extensive network of professionals, our education will turn you into a genuine Next-Gen Baker.

amarant founded in 1924

1924

Amarant was founded in 1924 by Jan and Anna Pater. It started small with a self-built bakery in their farmhouse and a dog cart used to deliver the bread. After World War II, they baked traditional white bread for the whole village.

acquisition son Cor 1955

1955

Their son Cor takes over the bakery with his wife Tinie, introducing countless new developments: a new house with a new shop, the acquisition of the Hoorn Bread Factory, the renovation of the bakery in Avenhorn and partnerships with supermarkets and grocery stores.

Bake Five 1991

1991

Johan and Marleen Pater are in charge. They acquire several bakeries throughout the Netherlands, set up partnerships with large supermarket chains and establish of Bake Five.

100 years of Amarant royal 2024

2024

In 2024, we celebrated our 100th anniversary and were awarded the “Royal” designation, which means we can now call ourselves Koninklijke Amarant Bakkers. We have multiple bakeries and about 350 employees, led by the fourth generation of the Paters family.

Location Amarant Academy

One of the in-person teaching locations is Het Broodatelier in Avenhorn, a facility designed for developing and producing innovative bread products. Equipped with cutting-edge technologies and equipment, it supports the entire production process from raw ingredients to finished goods. This facility is ideal for experimenting with and refining both traditional and modern baking methods, with a special focus on sourdough products. It’s a place where you can give free rein to your creativity.
