Do I need prior experience in a bakery?
Experience is not required, as long as you’re enthusiastic and motivated! It is important to have a workplace in an industrial bakery before you start this program to do the practical assignments.
How does the acceptance procedure work?
To show us how motivated you are, we’d like to receive a letter or video explaining why you’re so interested in this program. We’ll then have a personal interview to get to know you better. Based on that, we’ll determine whether this program is a good fit for you.
What makes this program different from other baking programs?
In a rapidly changing market, it’s essential that education aligns with the latest technologies and methods. Modern bakeries need well-trained professionals who have mastered traditional skills and are also familiar with advanced technologies, sustainable production methods, and current food safety standards. You’ll learn all of that and more in this program!
Where and when are the in-person classes held?
They may be held at the Broodatelier in Avenhorn, in Stoutenburg, or at another location, depending on the module’s content. Based on the registrations, we’ll determine which location is most convenient and best for you and your fellow students. The in-person classes are held once every two weeks. The next course year begins in January 2027.
What language is the program taught in?
The program is taught in English to give non-Dutch-speaking students the opportunity to enroll as well.
How many hours a week am I studying?
You have one in-person class day every two weeks, for a total of 17 class days. During the weeks when there are no classes, you’ll spend between 4 and 8 hours working independently on homework assignments.
Is the degree recognized?
Yes, the program is officially recognized by CPION (Dutch Center for Post-Initial Education).
Am I required to work at Amarant?
You’re more than welcome to work at our bakery, but it’s not required. We’re happy to welcome students from other industrial and/or large bakeries. Everyone brings their own practical knowledge and experience and can share it with fellow students. That way, you’ll learn not only from the course material, but also from each other!
How much does the program cost?
The investment for this program is €2,750 for the full academic year, including all necessary materials and your exams. If you work at Amarant Bakkers, you can contact HR for a training agreement. If you work at another bakery, ask your HR department whether they have a training budget to fund your education.
How long has this program been around?
We started with the first group in 2025, and they graduated in June 2026. Koninklijke Amarant Bakkers, which operates the Amarant Academy, has been around for over 100 years. So we have plenty of knowledge and experience!
Can I join for a day or get more information?
There are currently no class days; these will resume in January 2027. However, information days and evenings will be organized in the fall of 2026. If you have any questions about this, you can always contact program coordinator Laura Baas at info@amarantacademy.nl.
